Charles Looney died peacefully at his Jackson, Tennessee residence on Wednesday, April 30, 2025. He was born in Memphis, Tennessee to the late Charles and Winifred Jackson Looney. Charles led a life filled with love and commitment to his family, his church and community.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Maria Looney, who stood by his side through many of life's journeys. He is also remembered fondly by his sisters-in-law, Dominican Sister Marion Sartain and Sally Hermsdorfer, as well as Jennie Alexander and her husband, Steve. Further, he leaves behind his brother-in-law, Archbishop Emeritus J. Peter Sartain.
He was a devoted faithful member of the St. Nicholas Orthodox Christian Church and was loved by his church family.
The funeral service to honor Charles will take place on Monday, May 5, 2025, at the St. Nicholas Orthodox Christian Church located at 419 Old Humboldt Road in Jackson, TN. The service is scheduled to begin at 10:30 AM, with Father Matthew Snowden officiating. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery, 1663 Elvis Presley Blvd, Memphis, TN 38107, with a committal service at 3:00 p.m.
Charles will be missed dearly by all who had the privilege to know him. His legacy will continue to live on through the memories cherished by his family and friends.
