Catherine R. Jones

Catherine R. Jones, born on September 25, 1935, in Nowata, OK, the daughter of the late George Franklin and Annie Catherine Hammett Shrier, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital at the age of 90. Her family fondly remembers her generosity, sense of humor, and sharp wit.

Throughout her life, Catherine enjoyed strong bonds with friends and family. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Richard A. Kroeger in 2007 and Raymond Jones in 2018, whose memories remained close to her heart. Catherine’s legacy continues through her devoted family, including her surviving children: Mike Kroeger (Jane), Lisa Cole (Mike), Philip Kroeger (Irina), and David Kroeger (Lorraine), as well as fourteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Catherine’s journey through life was marked by moments of joy, resilience, and deep connection to those she loved. She was active in the DAR in various cities where she lived, was an exceptional seamstress who made clothes for herself, her children, and grandchildren, was an author and book editor, studied genealogy, and enjoyed birdwatching, especially her cardinals. Catherine made a home in several different places throughout her life and loved to travel. Her many experiences included road trips around the U.S. with her kids, rafting down the Snake River, and adventuring abroad in Thailand, Africa, and Europe.

The family will be holding a service for Catherine in West Virgina at a later time.
