Obituary

Brownie Holloway Pulliam passed away on April 4, 2026, in Jackson, Tennessee, at the age of 80. She was born on June 9, 1945, in Summertown, Tennessee, and lived a life marked by devotion, learning, service, and kindness.

Brownie devoted her life to education and to the children she taught. She spent 55 years as a first grade teacher, shaping young minds with patience, encouragement, and a steady commitment to helping each child begin a strong educational journey. Brownie also served her community through her involvement on the Metro Board of Education. In that role, she contributed her experience, insight, and concern for the well-being of students and schools.

Her commitment to education was reflected not only in her teaching career but also in her own academic achievements. Brownie received both her bachelor's degree and her master's degree, graduating from Belmont College and Trevecca College. She valued education deeply and understood its power to transform lives. Her accomplishments stood as a testament to her perseverance, discipline, and lifelong love of learning.

Outside of her professional life, Brownie was a woman of many interests and quiet joys. She was a prolific reader who loved books and the knowledge, comfort, and imagination they offered. Reading was one of her greatest pleasures, and it reflected her thoughtful nature and her lifelong curiosity. She also found fellowship and spiritual nourishment at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, where she was part of a faith community that held meaning in her life.

Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 54 years, Jim T. Pulliam; son, Andrew Pulliam; siblings, Randy Holloway of Mumford, TN and Carolyn Jeffrey of Kingston Springs, TN; and niece, Leyn Jeffrey. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilson Holloway and Lois Tucker Holloway.

A memorial service will be held to honor Brownie's life at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 10, 2026, in the chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors.

Brownie Holloway Pulliam will be remembered as a devoted teacher, a committed public servant, a faithful church member, and a woman of grace and intelligence. Her life touched countless others through her work, her example, and her warm presence.
