Bonita Colston Stephens

June 3, 1960 — January 5, 2024

Jackson, TN

Bonita Colston Stephens, beloved wife, and mother, passed away on January 5, 2024, at her residence with her loving husband by her side, at the age of 63.

She was born on June 3, 1960, in Memphis, TN, the daughter of the late Grady and Bettie Colston. She grew up in Holly Springs, MS.

She earned her Bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Mississippi Medical Center after completing her Associate’s degree from Northwest Community College and additional studies at Delta State University.

Bonita dedicated her career to providing exceptional care and support to others. As a physical therapist, she spent most of her time working in home health. She loved getting to know her patients and families as she provided compassionate care. She made a lasting difference in the hearts and health of many people.

Although she enjoyed her career, the roles she most enjoyed were being a wife, mother, and big sister. Bonita treasured the time she spent with family and friends, and her love was unmistakable.

Bonita loved to travel and experience life in other places. She was always planning and looking forward to the next trip. She also enjoyed a range of activities, from camping to elegant dinners, and from home-improvement projects to morning coffee with her husband. She loved sister-only trips and any time with her daughter. The activity was never as important as who she shared it with.

She was a strong supporter of Samaritan’s Purse and made multiple trips to Atlanta to help pack and ship shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child.

Bonita was a strong Christian with a deep faith in Christ. Her faith and trust in God carried her through her battle with cancer and every day of life. Her favorite verse was Ephesians 3:20-21 “Now unto him that is able to do exceeding, abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, unto him be glory…”

In every aspect of her life, Bonita exemplified compassion, empathy, love, and gratitude. She made an indelible impression on all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Bonita is survived by her loving husband Dr. Mark Stephens of Jackson, TN; her daughter, Jana Stephens of Jackson, TN; her sisters, Nancy Bynum and her husband David of Batesville, MS and Stephenie Warren and her husband Phil of Thaxton, MS will carry on Bonita's legacy in their hearts.
