Billy G.
Sorrell
December 12, 1933 – February 14, 2026
Billy G. Sorrell, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2026, at the Medina Health and Rehabilitation, at the age of 92.
He was born on December 12, 1933, in Dyersburg, TN, the son of Mont E. and Ida B. Sorrell. Billy was a man of great character and joy, whose legacy is marked by his unwavering dedication to his family, his work, and his community.
Billy spent much of his life in the town he loved, Dyersburg, TN where he established deep roots and formed lifelong friendships. His commitment to his work was evident in his over four decades of service at Dyersburg Fabrics, where he was not only a dedicated employee but also a beloved colleague. Upon his retirement, he continued to serve his community through his involvement at the Dyersburg Municipal Golf Course, where he worked for approximately fifteen years, sharing his passion for golf with others.
He was a devout Christian and an active member of the First Baptist Church in Dyersburg, where he found great comfort and fellowship. His faith was a cornerstone of his life and provided him with strength and guidance throughout his many years.
An avid bowler and golfer, Billy could often be found on the lanes or the fairways, enjoying the camaraderie of the game and the friendly competition. His love for sports also extended to the baseball diamond, where he spent more than a decade umpiring little League baseball, contributing to the joy and development of the young athletes in his community. He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the University of Tennessee Vols.
He is survived by his devoted son, Kelly Sorrell, and daughter-in-law Sherry; his adored grandson, Johnathan Sorrell; his sister-in-law, Shirley Roberts, and her husband, Tommy; and his nephews, Johnny and Rob Roberts. His warmth, wisdom, and wit touched the lives of all who knew him, and his presence will be deeply missed.
Along with his parents he was preceded by his wife, Charlotte Prichard Sorrell in November 2011.
