Alyson Joy Weise passed on to her eternal rest on June 16, 2026, with her loving family by her side. She was a place of peace and a true friend to all who knew her, and her legacy of love and joy will continue on in the hearts and lives that she touched.
Alyson was born on July 9, 1961 in Houston, TX to James and Dorothy Griffin, the youngest of six siblings. She studied mathematics at Texas Tech, where she met her husband Dobie. They married in 1983 and went on to have five children, living along the way in San Antonio, Hawaii, Guadalajara, McAllen, and eventually back in Houston. Throughout her life she was known for her warm hospitality, infectious smile, and love of God and others. After being diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2020, she and Dobie moved to Jackson, TN (to be closer to three of their children), which will be her final resting place.
Alyson was many things to many people: a daughter, a sister, a wife, a mother, a grandmother, an aunt, a homemaker, a math teacher, a logistics coordinator, a mentor, a confidant, a sorority sister, a second mom, a host, and–most of all–a friend. She forged lifelong relationships wherever she lived, inviting people into her home and her life to share in both good times and hard seasons. She loved spending time with her family, hosting friends for delicious meals, writing, doing puzzles, singing hymns, and sharing good conversation and laughter. She had a way of making a person feel completely at home and genuinely cared for, and was a steadfast source of wisdom, encouragement, prayer, and joy.
She is survived by husband Dobie Weise; son Jeremy Weise (Kate) and grandchildren Zaria, Anthony, and Gabriel; son Daniel Weise (Kelly) and grandchildren River and Sierra; daughter Kate Newman (Matt) and grandchildren Evie, Peter, and Abigail; son Trey Weise (Megan) and grandchildren Charlie and Olive; brother Jimmy Griffin (Lucy); sister Jana Irwin (Mac); sister Debbie Bexley (Byron). She is preceded in death by youngest son Andrew born prematurely; grandchild Esther; sister Gail; brother Thad; parents Dorothy and James Griffin.
There will be a visitation on Thursday, June 18 from 4:00-6:00 pm at Arrington Funeral Directors, 148 W University Pkwy, Jackson, TN 38305. A graveside burial service will take place on Friday, June 19 at 10:00 am at Ridgecrest Cemetery, 200 Ridgecrest Rd, Jackson, TN 38305. A memorial service celebrating Alyson’s life will be held on Saturday, June 27 at 10:00 am at Houston Northwest Church, 19911 State Hwy 249 Houston, TX 77070, with a reception to follow from 11:00-1:00.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in Alyson’s honor to World Hope Ministries International (www.whmi.org/donate-to-whmi).
