Alice House
Wright
January 2, 1948 – April 19, 2026
Alice House Wright, a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and compassionate nurse, died peacefully on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
Born on January 2, 1948, in Carroll County, Tennessee, Alice was the daughter of the late Howard and Lucille House. From the very beginning, her life was centered on caring for others—most especially her family.
Alice's greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her children and grandchildren: Allison and Mark Donahoe and their sons, Will, Harrison, and Jackson; Leigh Ann and Robert Earl Gaines III (Tre) and their daughters, Lela, Landry, and Liza; Wade and Christa Wright and their son, Tyler; as well as her beloved great-grandchildren, Emerson Taylor, Wells Taylor, Cash Taylor, and Kenli Piper.
Her family was truly the center of her world. She found her deepest happiness in time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, delighting in their laughter, celebrating their accomplishments, and cherishing even the simplest shared moments. The bonds she formed were rooted in love, encouragement, and devotion, and her family will forever treasure her kindness, wisdom, and steady presence.
Alice was a 1966 graduate of Northside High School in Jackson, Tennessee. After graduation, she lived in Memphis, Tennessee, and Jackson, Mississippi, before returning to Tennessee in 1976. It was there that she fulfilled her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse, graduating from Union University in 1986.
She dedicated thirty years of service to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, working in a variety of roles. Upon her retirement in 2011, she was serving as Director of Case Management and Social Services—a position that reflected both her professional excellence and her deep compassion for patients and families.
Outside of her work, Alice loved to travel, spend time at the beach, and tend to her flower garden. She loved God, valued meaningful relationships, and cherished the many colleagues and friends she worked alongside throughout her career.
Services will be held on Sunday, April 26, 2026, with visitation from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors. A graveside service will follow at 3:30 p.m. at Highland Memorial Gardens, with Rev. Doug Wede of First Christian Church of Alamo officiating.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Hope and Healing Foundation, c/o the Patient Needs Fund, 620 Skyline Drive, Jackson, TN 38305, or online at www.wthhopeandhealing.org.
