Obituary

Alan Lee Laffoon, age 81, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2025. He was born on May 9, 1944, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Anderson Lyle Laffoon and Mildred Emma Laffoon. An only child, Alan grew up with strong values that shaped a life defined by faith, service, and devotion to family.

Alan was a loving and devoted husband to Patricia "Pat" Laffoon, with whom he shared 59 wonderful years of marriage. The two met while working in downtown St. Louis at Shoppers Charge Service, beginning a lifelong partnership rooted in faith, love, respect, and shared purpose.

In addition to his wife, Alan leaves behind his daughter, Kimberley (Adam) Redmon, and grandchildren John Michael, Rachel, Louis, Charlie, and Clara, all of St. Peters, Missouri; and his son, Michael (Stephanie) Laffoon, and grandchildren Lauren, Anderson, Tyler, Liza, and Denis Bisangwa, of Jackson, Tennessee. One of Alan's greatest joys was spending time with his grandchildren, all of whom lovingly called him "Poptoo." He delighted in playing board games with them, attending their sporting events, praying for them, and simply being present in their lives.

As an only child, Alan cherished his extended family and considered his brothers-in-law, Randy (Pat) Ford and David (Denise) Ford, as his own brothers. He also shared a close bond with his cousin, David (Mary) Horstmann, whom he likewise considered a brother.

Born in St. Louis Missouri, Alan grew up in South City, and later South County, where he attended Mehlville High School. He was a proud graduate of the University of Missouri, earning a degree in accounting. He began his career at McDonnell Douglas Aircraft, Inc. in St. Louis, continued with ITT Telecom in Corinth, Mississippi, and later retired in 2004 from ACT Electronics in Corinth, Mississippi. Known for his guidance and leadership, Alan's coworkers deeply appreciated his wisdom, humility, and servant-hearted approach. He led not by authority, but by example, always supportive, always kind.

Never content to slow down, Alan's boundless energy and passion for service led him to a new chapter as Recorder for the City of Jackson, where he served faithfully until his retirement in 2020. An avid baseball fan, Alan took great pride in several community projects, most notably the Sportsplex in Jackson and the ballpark for the Jackson Generals, leaving a lasting and visible legacy in the community he loved.

Alan's faith in his Lord and Savior was evident to all who knew him. He loved reading his Bible—often reading through it with his wife—and faithfully taught Scripture to his children as they were growing up. His life reflected his faith through action, humility, and compassion. He served as an elder at First Christian Church and was a current member of Englewood Baptist Church, where he enjoyed being part of Jim Strait's Life Group and many Bible study classes. Outgoing by nature, Alan developed deep friendships through his church involvement and was known for his genuine care for others.

Alan was a lifelong sports fan, cheering faithfully for the St. Louis Cardinals and the Memphis Grizzlies. He also enjoyed playing cards with friends, participating in Bible studies, watching his favorite teams, and anything that involved his grandchildren.

He will be remembered by his wife, children, grandchildren, coworkers, friends, and church family as a man of faith, deeply devoted to his family, extremely compassionate, and a humble servant whose life consistently reflected his love for God and others.
